The Walton Park Crit Movie & Report
The Walton Park Crit Movie features CRC’s own Dan & Mark King, Trek-Livestrong’s Joe Dombrowski, and a pretty stacked XO Comm/Battley Team. And music by Kraftwerk of course:
The first half of the Men’s 1/2/3 race featured a 3-man break containing two XO Communications/ Battley Harley-Davidson riders Keck Baker and Adam Switters. The third and doomed rider, Jake Tremblay (Kelly Benefits Strategies/LSA) fell prey to Harley’s teamwork in the break. It was a sad two cat and one mouse affair (see ‘The Look’ in the video!) As Tremblay drifted back to No Man’s Land, CRC’s Dan King jumped from the peloton, only to be well marked by Harley’s Mason Haymes. Haymes dropped King and established a formidable gap. Whether Haymes got impatient in the peloton with thoughts for himself or was aiming for a Harley podium sweep remains a mystery. Dangerously, though, Mason was joined by Trek/Livestrong’s Joe Dombrowski and the relentless Dan King. With a fourth chaser in Harley’s Sean Berrie and the addition of the embattled Kelly rider Tremblay, this 5-man chase group had modest potential to cooperate. In the end, though, the chase was singularly powered by a gargantuan Dombrowski tempo. Haymes and Berrie had no generous reason to pull. Tremblay was recovering from a big effort to reattach with the leaders. And King knew that today’s victory, after the huge effort to bridge, would be bronze. Dombrowski would spectacularly go on to cut the two leader’s once 70-second lead down to 20 seconds. Dan King would go on to outsprint the chase group for third overall. Harley’s two man break made overall victory look much too easy on this small crit course with big grades.
Congrats on a great first annual CRC Walton Park Criterium!!!
