Athens Twilight Race Report

Want to be a rock star ? Do this race ! . If you arent in the invitational you need to qualify for the big show in morning qualifiers , which was one of the most difficult races I’ve done this year . Both Dan and I qualified (by both finishing in the top 10) for the show . Racing in front of 20 or 30,000 screaming maniacs was a hoot although with max heart rate from the gun and eyes popping out of my skull made it tough to enjoy. Dan got 9th , with 2 to go a guy caught a pedal in the 4th corner taking us to the back of the field and it was way too fast to make it back up front again .
Jake rode a studly jr race in the morning getting 3rd in a thunderstorm.
Ben was in the invitational and was really a rock star(at least for an hour) . By the time9:00 pm)he rode you couldn’t get close to the course it was so crowded . About 15 laps in he got away with a Colavito and a Rock Racing rider . They stayed away for 50 – 60 laps before getting caught …... really cool .

Nicely done even making it
Nicely done even making it to the invitational at all! And I read about Ben’s exploits. Wow. Just wow. I did the big show at twilight in 93 & 94 and it was all I could do to hang on the back for dear life. Still those were some of the most incredible race experiences I’ve ever had. I can only imagine what it would be like to be off the front in that race.
